Medikal had only 13 votes from general public – VGMA board member

A board member of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Nii Ayi Tagoe, has disclosed that rapper Medikal, had only 13 votes for New Artiste of the Year at the 2017 awards.

According to Nii, who made the revelation on the Starr FM’s ‘Morning Zoo,’ the general public that seemed to have shown support to Medikal prior to the awards, did not really vote for him. “The people who made noise for these artistes on social media didn’t really go out to vote.

Medikal had 13 votes from the general public for the New Artiste of the Year category,” he said. Before the awards, Medikal was tipped as a potential winner of the New Artiste of the Year and the Artiste of the Year categories by most music pundits.

Even though he had the highest nominations of 7, he did not win any of them. Although the organisers have published results for thenominees from the votes by the Academy, Boardand General Public, the breakdown for each of these three voting groups is unknown to the public.

In the wake of this, Nii’s statement comes as a serious revelation about the VGMA voting patternand some have suggested that the breakdown of all the categories be published to allay people doubts and enable the artiste to know how they really fared in the awards. –

Popular Ghanaian actor, Kwadwo Nkansah ‘Lilwin’, is not so happy with the Charterhouse Ghana and DJ Black.

The Kumawood actor has threatened to sue both Charterhouse and DJ Black.

The reason being that none of his songs were nominated for any award but they still had the nerve to play them during the event.

Lilwin threatens to sue Charterhouse and DJ Black over VGMA problems

This was in response to a question posed to him by AJ Sarpong asking him why his famous tracks including the viral ‘Mama Boss Papa’ were not nominated for any award including the much anticipated Most Popular Song of the year category.

Lilwin also asked if maybe his background as an actor was a stumbling block to him getting nominated and gave examples of other actors who switch to music but have gain much recognition.

Lilwin threatens to sue Charterhouse and DJ Black over VGMA problems

He said, “maybe they think I'm an actor so I don’t fit in the music circle for my songs to be nominated. 50cent is a rapper and also an actor so why didn’t they nominate any of my songs, not even “I don’t think far” which became the nation’s anthem and I even did 4 collaborations with different artistes on them”.

According to him he has threatened to file a legal suit against VGMA and Dj Black for not nominating none of the songs, he [Lilwin] submitted for nomination during VGMAs, but had the guts to play his song during the main event.

Lilwin added, “I have talked to my lawyer and we are filing a legal suit against them, if my song not qualified why you should have to play it there”.

However, he quickly added that he was going to wait after the premiere of his new movie John and John before he would take any action.
